بيروت في 30 تشرين الثاني 2021 استقبل رئيس الهيئات الإقتصادية الوزير السابق محمد شقير المفوض التجاري لمصر ولبنان في السفارة الكندية ياسمين وهاب والمفوض التجاري في السفارة الكندية غريس ديب اليوم في غرفة بيروت وجبل لبنان، وجرى البحث في سبل تنمية العلاقات الإقتصادية بين البلدين. وأكد شقير إعطاء القطاع الخاص اللبناني موضوع تعزيز العلاقات الإقتصادية مع كندا أولوية كبيرة، استناداً الى علاقات الصداقة بين البلدين ولأهمية الإقتصاد الكندي وكذلك لوجود جالية لبنان كبيرة وفاعلة في كندا. وإذ شرح شقير تداعيات الأزمة الإقتصادية والمالية على المؤسسات وعلى الشعب اللبناني، دعا أصدقاء لبنان لا سيما كندا الى مساندته ومساعدته على تخطي أزمته، عارضاً مجالات التعاون الثنائي المجدية خلال المرحلة الراهنة. من جهتهما، أكدتا وهاب وديب وقوف بلادهما الى جانب لبنان ومساعدته لتخطي أزمته الإقتصادية. وأشارتا الى انهما سينقلان الأفكار التي طرحت خلال اللقاء الى المعنيين في بلادهما، &quot;خصوصاً أن هناك رغبة قوية لمساعدة لبنان وقطاعه الخاص&quot;. &nbsp;

بيروت في 30 حزيران 2021 استقبل رئيس الهيئات الاقتصادية الوزير السابق محمد شقير اليوم في مقر غرفة بيروت وجبل لبنان، نقابة مستوردي السيارات المستعملة في لبنان برئاسة ايلي قزي، وتم البحث في تداعيات الأزمة المالية والاقتصادية لا سيما على قطاع السيارات. وفي هذا الإطار، أكد شقير ان الأزمة الاقتصادية أصابت بالصميم كل القطاعات الاقتصادية خصوصاً القطاع التجاري لا سيما السلع المعمرة ومنها السيارات، مبدياً تخوفه من حصول المزيد من التدهور الاقتصادي والاجتماعي والمعيشي في حال استمرار المراوحة &quot;القاتلة&quot; وعدم تشكيل الحكومة المتظرة. وشدد شقير على ضرورة العمل على إبتكار أفكار مجدية لتقوية صمود المؤسسات وحماية العاملين فيها، خصوصاً ان القطاع الخاص يشكل رافعة للنهوض الاقتصادي عند استتباب الأوضاع في البلد. وابدى شقير استعداد الهيئات الاقتصادية وغرفة بيروت وجبل لبنان للوقوف الى جانب هذا القطاع الحيوي ودعم أي فكرة إيجابية تصب في مصلحة القطاع والمؤسسات العاملة فيه. من جهة، نوه قزي بالجهود التي يقوم بها شقير للحفاظ على القطاع الخاص اللبناني، شاكراً كل الدعم الذي ابداه للنقابة والقطاع، &quot;وهو معروف عنه دائماً وقوفه الى جانب المؤسسات الخاصة للحفاظ عليها وعلى العاملين فيها&quot;. وقال قزي &quot;قطاع السيارات مدمر، فبالاضافة الى انعدام الحركة وعدم قدرة أصحاب المؤسسات دفع الكلفة التشغيلية، فنحن نواجه مشكلات متعددة لا سيما الاقفالات المستمرة في دوائر الدولة من نافعة ومراكز معاينة ميكانيك ومالية وخلافها&quot;، مشيراً الى ان هذه الامور مجتمعة من شأنها الإطاحة نهائياً بقطاع السيارات. وجرى خلال الاجتماع بحث مطول حول بعض الافكار التي طرحتها النقابة، لا سيما مساعدة غرفة بيروت وجبل لبنان بأيجاد أسواق خارجية لتصريف السيارات المستعملة اللبنانية مع توجه لدى معظم العائلات اللبنانية بالتخلي عن عدد من سياراتها مع وجود بين سيارتين واربع وخمس سيارات لدى كل عائلة وفي ظل ارتفاع التكاليف التشغيلية والصيانة، ما يساهم بخفض الفائض في اسطول السيارات وإدخال العملة الأجنبية الى لبنان.

148 students join the first YEP MED fully digital international training in Barcelona , Tunis, Civitavecchia and Beirut

The Director General Mr. Rabih Sabra, attended Lebanon&rsquo;s case webinar &lsquo;From recovery to sustainable development&rsquo; organized on January 27th by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the League of Arab States (LAS), in partnership with Lebanon&rsquo;s National Committee of sustainable Development at the Council of Ministers, where Mr. Sabra stands as the representative of the private sector. Throughout his presentation on the Resilience of the Lebanese Private Sector facing Covid-19 and its Role in Sustainable Development, Mr. Sabra introduced the Beirut chamber, the effects of the Lebanese crisis and Covid-19 on businesses, and touched on the chamber interventions in response to the pandemic and its activities with respect to sustainable development. &nbsp;

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut &amp; Mount Lebanon can now benefit from the use of ICC&rsquo;s internationally-recognised CO label.&nbsp; This certified mark assures banks, businesses, customs administrations and traders that their COs have been issued according to the utmost stringent and harmonised certification standards, based on the ICC WCF International CO Guidelines.

Developing network of synergies to increase the number of digitally skilled women The virtual Kick off meeting of the EU funded project INTERNISA took place on 14 &amp; 15 December 2020 In presence of Vice-Governor of Development and Environment, Region of Central Macedonia (Leader of the project), representatives of Joint Secretariat ENI CBC MED and the partners institutions from 8 partners from municipalities, training centers, and youth agencies community in the Mediterranean namely: Spain, Italy, Greece, Palestine, Jordan, Tunisia and Lebanon. Rabih Sabra, Director General of the Chamber of Beirut &amp; Mount Lebanon, a key partner in INTERNISA project, highlighted through his presentation the Chamber role and solid previous experience in EU and international projects, and the expectations from INTERNISA on providing digital skills and employability opportunities to Lebanese NEET women, SMEs and the public sector. Hana Nehme, Director of Human Resources, presented the capacity building program on four selected sectors: Agrifood, textiles, tourism and financial areas that shall be carried out by the Chamber as coordinator of this WP. INTERNISA aims at developing a network of synergies to increase the number of digitally skilled women employed in the ENI CBC MED territories via matching demand and supply in the labor market. The target beneficiaries from this project are NEETS women, SMEs community and the public sector.

YEP MED project CCIA-BML visit to the Port of Beirut &amp; Beirut Terminal Container In the framework of the EU funded project YEP MED<a href="#_edn1" name="_ednref1" title="">[i]</a> (Youth Employment in Ports of The Mediterranean), in which the Chamber of Beirut and Mount Lebanon is a key partner, a team of the Chamber namely Mr. Rabih Sabra Director General, Mrs. Sawsan Wazzan Jabri, Board member and Mrs. Hana Nehme responsible of the YEP MED project visited the premises of the key stakeholder of this project: Port of Beirut. The visit started by meeting the General Manager of the Port Authority, Mr. Bassem Kaissi, whereas the discussions tackled the arenas of collaboration between the Port authority and the Chamber. Mr Kaissi reiterated the determination of the port authority to support the objectives of the project mainly the YEP MED port logistics trainings and apprenticeship programs targeting the Lebanese youth. The delegation met as well with Mr. Ziad Kenaan, Chairman and Director General of Beirut Terminal Container (BCT) along with his team who presented the diversified operations and services, namely: safety, planning, operations, trainings, and R &amp; D. The team explored as well the practical measures they implemented in response to the Beirut blast to ensure the Container Terminal resumed operational status and safely. Mr. Ziad Kenaan highlighted particularly the solidarity among employees and their full devotion towards BCT on that drastic moments. He pointed out as well the tools and strategies used by the top management and teams to cope efficiently with the post explosion stage. The presentations were followed by a sightsee of the BCT facilities: the yard, cranes, vessels, maintenance, operations room and other services. In line with YEP MED project objectives, channels of recruitment of the needed profiles and related skills of the operational staff were showcased and discussed between the Chamber and BCT teams. The Yep MED project is led by ESCOLA Europea-Intermodal Transport along with partners from med port authorities and maritime training institutes from Italy, Spain, France, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia and Lebanon. The Chamber of Beirut is a key partner in the&nbsp; YEP MED&nbsp;project that aims to develop port-logistics training and vocational resources (TVET) adapted to sector needs to strengthen youth employability; increase and upgrade local employment opportunities through the creation of real dual-learning programs with job placements, strengthening the role of SME&rsquo;s operating in the port ecosystems for future employment creation; and setting up collaborative national and transnational partnerships between port-logistics associations, operators, SMEs, training centers and VET providers, whilst introducing a PPP co-management process. <div> <div id="edn1"> <a href="#_ednref1" name="_edn1" title="">[i]</a> The Yep Med project &ldquo;Youth Employment in Ports of the Mediterranean&rdquo; is implemented under the ENI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme (<a href="http://www.enpicbcmed.eu/">www.enpicbcmed.eu</a>. its total budget is &euro; 2.9 Million and it is financed, &euro; 2,610,000 by the European Union through the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument. &nbsp; </div> </div>

Kick-off meeting INTERNISA

The up skilling imperative: vocational training and the new offer of BSOs&rsquo; services The third BUSINESSMED webinar within the series on &ldquo;Building back resilience&rdquo; was held on December 07, 2020 in the framework of EBSOMED project. The Chamber of Beirut and Mount Lebanon as an active partner in this important project, participated in the webinars through the contributions of Mr. Rabih Sabra, the director general. In his presentation, Mr. Sabra gave an overview about the TVET situation in Lebanon and the role and initiatives of the Beirut Chamber in relation to the TVET sector. These include the employers surveys on skills needs in TVET with the European Training Foundation (ETF), the on-going ENI CBC projects YEP MED and INTERNISA which aim at supporting NEETS especially youth and women in upgrading their skills and creating job opportunities. Mr. Sabra also mentioned the Mashreq Gender Facility, which is a peer-learning platform, established in partnership with the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group that aims at raising the capacity and awareness of businesses regarding women&rsquo;s participation and economic empowerment.
